Our Museum Associates are the primary staff team members to interface with the museum and retail shop guests.
Our associates are key members of our operation who give daily historic walking tours of Coronado, raise funds and awareness through selling our merchandise and tour tickets, welcome guests to the museum, work museum programs and event rentals, and answer inquiries about local history, the museum, and community services from the visiting public.
This is a part-time job, with regular shifts of two to three 4-hour shifts per week, primarily on weekends, in the museum store, including daily walking tours, in addition to events and projects as required.
Experience, Qualifications, and Skills:
This is a perfect summer job for a college student or a recent graduate interested in history and giving informative, accurate, and fun walking tours.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable success in communication, sales, customer service, and a professional demeanor.
They will also possess:

years experience in the customer service industry, preferably at museums, arts/cultural institutions, or museum gift shops.
Previous tour guide experience is a plus.
Excellent speaking, organizational, interpersonal, and cultural literacy skills.
Ability to be a self-starter, work independently, solve problems, and work within a flexible, team-based work environment.
Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk outside for 90 minutes, and lift up to 30 pounds without assistance.
Ability to perform basic math calculations and use point of sale technology.
Position Description
Responsibilities:
50% Community Programs & Services Demonstrate knowledge of and effectively communicate and promote the Coronado Historical Association's programs and services Deliver Historical Walking Tours, implement museum educational programs, and provide logistical support for rental and museum event, as required.
Professionally handle issues with museum exhibits, programs, or visitors.
Positively partner with Coronado Historical Association volunteers and staff; help deliver outstanding support to museum volunteers on a day-to-day basis.
Serve as a representative for the Museum both internally and externally.
Assist with special projects and events, including other duties as assigned.
Weekend and evening hours are required.
50% Museum Services and Sales Engage and educate guests to increase traffic into museum and store.
Successfully complete museum and store operations, policies and procedures which include performing daily exhibit, public space, and store walkthroughs and cleaning, specific merchandise-related activities, and maintaining education interactives.
Conduct cash handling and transact sales on the point-of-sale system quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
Maintain daily reports, including guest demographics and delivering surveys as needed, and an accurate account of daily sales.
Assist in inventory control; help to maintain an orderly and attractive museum space, store, and organized stockroom by keeping merchandise filled and neatly displayed.
Ensure that each guest receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment from a knowledgeable staff that promotes membership and product sales, accurate museum and program information, and genuine hospitality.
